ASSOCIATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL STUFF AND THINGS AND JUNK
The Australian Horror Writers Association: I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, de-briefed, or numbered. Oh, no, wait, turns out I’m member number 30.
The Science Fiction Writers of America: All the cool kids are doing it. I'm member number something-or-other.
The Queensland Writers Centre are a hugely professional bunch of people who are an absolute joy to work with. I've done so several times, and had the best of experiences every time. They should all be so good...
The Australian Writers Marketplace is a hub of the QWC, and the one book every Australian writer should have on their shelf, not to mention the courses, the fora, the writing races, the expertise.... you could lose days in this site, you really could. They are, also, a brilliant bunch of people to work with.
The Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers Centre: I have an association with this centre that goes back years, and includes residencies, giving workshops, entering and judging competitions, and attending writing groups.
Clarion South: the boot camp for aspiring speculative fiction writers in Australia. I tutored here in 2007, and I'd kill you and you for another go at it. A truly brilliant experience.
Duotrope: The single best market listings site I've ever come across. My number one stop.
Storypilot: My back-up to Duotrope. Not as extensive, but a fantastic visual interface that makes for easy searching.
Rockingham Writers is a new group dedicated to providing a writing group experience for those who can't attend traditional mid-week groups because of work or other daytime commitments. I'm a member.
Fablecroft: one of the two most interesting, vital, and progressive small press speculative fiction companies in Australia.
Twelfth Planet Press: the other most intersting, vital, progressive etc etc and so forth.
